The Glory of Rome is Not Forgotten
Throughout the centuries, Rome had many lasting achievements. For example, Romans gave women much greater freedom than other empires. They let women own businesses, vote, and own property! Nowadays, women have the freedom to do whatever they want! They have equal amounts of rights as men. Also, Romans invented the Latin language. Today, the languages Italian, German, English, and French are all influenced by Latin. Finally Romans developed a republic which the Constitution of America is based on. We also used the Roman Republic System to balance the judicial, legislative, and executive powers of the government.
The Roman Empire suffered many trials and tribulations in its final years. First of all, Rome was having military problems. Soldiers were having trouble with the Germanic and Persian tribes sweeping through the empire. Also, the government couldn't pay their soldiers, and both Constantine and Diocletian could do nothing about it. When the Germanic tribes fought the Romans and finally won, they captured the city, and people were forced to give land to them. The last thing that led to the fall was the Germanic general for Rome, Odoacer. He overthrew the western ruler Romulus Augustus and became the last Roman emperor. 15 years later, his own people the Visigoths killed him.
Rome was once a great and powerful empire. It had many lasting achievements, and influenced much of today's world. Roman laws, such as the 12 tables, still exist today. People are all equal under the law, and we have the rights to a fair trial until proven guilty. Their culture, literature, and language is still used today. Christianity was the birth place of Rome, and now it's one of the greatest religions ever. Also, their architecture is greatly admired today. Many of our public buildings are based on Roman art, such as arches, domes, and columns. The Roman Empire was one of the greatest empire in history and will never be forgotten.
